Description

FAN-324S is a laser scanning workstation, designed around a 64-core Threadripper Pro 9985WX processor and an RTX 5090 32GB video card.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 64-core Threadripper Pro 9985WX processor and an RTX 5090 32GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a new dedicated LIDAR processing workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This build was designed for Spatial Explorer, processing 500GB+ of data daily.

This build is based on our Threadripper Pro 9000 CAD Workstation and is similar to QT-WRXTRANS.

Design Rationale

  • The Threadripper Pro 9985WX gave the customer a high amount of single-core performance for lightly-threaded loads, and near-maximum multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a triple-fan liquid cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • We recommended 512GB RAM for a dedicated processing machine. While most jobs probably won’t require this much, it can lead to dramatic time savings on larger jobs.
  • The customer requested twin 8TB NVME drives, we recommended Gen5 for both for long-term performance.
  • The customer requested an RTX 5090 32GB.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1600W power supply was recommended.
  • We used a large full-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our high-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure, as well as extra fans on the RAM.
