General System Design

This build is designed around a 24-core Core Ultra 9 285K processor and onboard graphics.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This system is designed for FPGA development in Vivado. The user needed a semi-portable SFF machine, attached to an optical microscope. More systems would be acquired as more prototypes are made.

This build is similar to our Core Ultra 9 SFF Workstation.

Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B860-I GAMING WIFI

Memory: Crucial Pro 2x32GB ​DDR5-6000

OS Storage (NVME): Western Digital Black SN850X 1TB

Power Supply (PSU): be quiet! SFX L 600W

Case: Lian Li A4-H20 X4 ITX Black Mesh

OS: Windows 11 Pro

Design Rationale

  • The customer requested the Core Ultra 9 285K for high single-core performance.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer requested 64GB of memory.
  • We recommended a single 1TB NVME, to save on cost and give the customer a decent amount of local storage
  • The customer does not need a dedicated video card.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 600W power supply was recommended.
  • We used a SFF case to fit the build.
