Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time. This build is designed for 3DXpert.

This build influenced The Dirt Jedi.

CPU Cooler: Fractal Design Celsius S36

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ULTRA

Memory: Kingston Fury Beast 2x32GB DDR5-4800

Storage (SSD): 2x Kingston KC3000 2TB

Video Card (GPU): Zotac GeForce RTX 3090 24GB GAMING Trinity OC

Power Supply (PSU): be quiet! Straight Power 11 1000W

Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500DX

Fans: 6x Phanteks PH-F120T30

OS: Windows 10 Pro

Design Rationale

  • The i9-13900K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for modeling and editing, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm AIO is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 64GB of RAM, and didn’t want last-gen tech. 128GB is an easy upgrade.
  • The customer requested a 2TB NVME boot drive and 2TB of storage for secondary. We recommended Gen4 NVME for both drives due to the relative cost/performance.
  • The customer initially wanted at least an RTX 3070Ti, upgrading to the RTX 3090 due to this particular machine doing more GPU-bound work.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1000W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our default mid-tower case to fit the motherboard
  • We used our highest-performing fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
