Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new laser scanning workstation to handle their growing professional workload with 3D LIDAR models that would last a long time.

This build is designed for Inventor, Revit, Navisworks, Adobe, and Faro. This order was for 5 identical PCs.

This customer previously purchased Super Tower of Power, DEVR 1, DEVR 2, Accelerated Design, Tryscannosaurus Rex, Mascanodon, Triscanatops, Saber Tooth Scanner, Pterodascanyl, and Dragonscanzord.

This build influenced our Xeon Light Laser Scanning Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The Xeon W7-2475X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for lightly-threaded loads, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm liquid cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with room for 8 RAM slots and PCIE Gen5 connectivity. Onboard 10G networking was a plus.
  • The customer requested at least 256GB  of RAM. This allows the user to load large scans into RAM, and go up to 2TB RAM.
  • The customer wanted a dual-layer storage setup; 4TB NVME for OS+programs and 4TB NVME for main storage.
  • The customer requested a liquid-cooled RTX 4090 24GB video card.
  • We recommended a 1200W power supply.
  • The smaller Xeon motherboard and liquid-cooled GPU allowed us to use a smaller mid-tower case to fit the build. This works well for shipping to new employees.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
