Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation designed for video editing, photo editing, gaming, streaming, 3D modeling, and general use.

This customer wanted a dedicated computer strong enough to handle Premiere, Photoshop, and OBS. He also preferred liquid cooling visually over air cooling. A good long-term upgrade path was important, as sleek visuals. Several existing parts were reused in this build to keep cost down.

This build was purchased as a set with Nicole.

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 5 5600X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for gaming and editing, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a single-tower cooler is recommended. The customer preferred liquid cooling with a 240mm AIO for visual appeal.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 32GB of RAM, 64GB was an easy upgrade.
  • We used a single 1TB NVME drive for main storage, reusing an existing 4TB HDD for bulk storage.
  • We recommended the RTX 3060Ti for gaming and editing performance.
  • We reused an existing 850W power supply.
  • We reused an existing case.
  • We used our default fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
