Description

Cerberus is a CAD workstation, designed around a 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X processor and an RTX 4090 24GB video card.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X processor and an RTX 4090 24GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This workstation is designed for Rhino, Grasshopper, VRay (GPU), Revit, Lumion, Photoshop, and ACAD.

This build started out similar to our i9 Rhino Workstation, but changed into an upgraded version of our Ryzen CPU Rendering Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 9 9950X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for general use, and maximum multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality. While some boards allow for a second GPU to be installed, we discussed simply upgrading the GPU in the future to stay on a single-GPU board.
  • The customer was fine with our recommended memory setup.
  • The customer requested 1TB Gen4 NVME for OS+programs and 4TB Gen4 NVME for main storage.
  • The RTX 4090 maximizes the customers desire for faster rendering, they acknowledged that the Geforce card is not Certified by Autodesk.
  • While the overall design of the build meant that a 1200W power supply was needed, we recommended the 1500W for an easier GPU upgrade path (no cost add).
  • The customer requested a specific mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
