General System Design

This build is designed around a 8-core Ryzen 7 7700X processor and a Radeon RX 7800XT 16GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer wanted a powerful 1440p gaming PC to handle their games that would last a long time.

This customer previously purchased a low-end laptop for their son, came to us wanting something more powerful and preferring to spend money locally.

This build was influenced by our 1440p/144hz Gaming Computer.

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 7 7700X gave the customer a good amount of single-core performance for lightly-threaded workloads, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a high-end tower cooler is recommended. We were able to get a liquid cooler at a heavily discounted rate.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • We recommended 16GB RAM for the particular needs, more RAM is an easy upgrade for the customer to handle.
  • The customer agreed with our dual-drive storage recommendation.
  • We initially recommended an RTX 4070 Super, changing to an RX 7800XT to save money.
  • We recommended a 850W power supply based on the overall design of the build, and were able to get one at a heavily discounted rate.
  • We used a smaller mid-tower case to fit the parts and give solid airflow, and were able to get one at a heavily discounted rate.
