Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload in their excavation business.

This system is designed in particular for Pix4D, Virtual Surveyor, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Trimble Business Center, and undetermined video editing suites (in order of importance to the client).

This order was managed by one of our former tech consultants, now memorialized in The Johnson Process. Builds managed by Chris include HephaestusThe Beast, JangoNautilusData DozerHoudinierThe BebopSilver SurferEl Rey Del Muerto, and The ArkenScripter.

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 9 3900X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for editing, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a dual-tower cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 64GB of RAM, 128GB was an easy upgrade.
  • The customer was mostly fine with our default storage setup, upgrading the OS drive from 500GB to 1TB.
  • We recommended the RTX 2080 Super for editing performance.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 850W power supply was recommended.
  • We used a bigger mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our default fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.

Customer Review

“The guys at Top Flight Computers are very knowledgeable not only in computers and parts but also in a large variety of software’s which was a huge help.

They were able to recommend exactly what parts and pieces it would take to have the machine I was after, and not spend unnecessary money on things that just were not needed for what I’m doing.

Their customer service and ease of dealing with was also another big plus for me. I would most definitely get ahold of them first before any other computer purchases.”
