Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful 3D laser scanning workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This workstation is designed for GIS/Remote Sensing, LIDAR processing, image processing, R/R Studio, ESRI GIS, and Python.

This build was influenced by our Xeon Extreme Laser Scanning Workstation and Saber Tooth Scanner.

Design Rationale

  • The Xeon W9 35​75X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for general use, and maximum multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer was fine with our recommended memory setup.
  • We recommended 4TB Gen4 NVME for OS, main storage, and backup storage; with a high-end SSD RAID array for deep storage.
  • We recommended the RTX A6000 48GB to handle ultra-large projects needing lots of VRAM.
  • While the overall design of the build meant that a 1200W power supply was needed, we recommended the 1500W for better long-term performance.
  • We used our larger mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
