General System Design

This build is designed around a 16-core Xeon w5-3435X processor and an RTX A2000 12GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a set of 6 powerful new workstations to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This build was designed for storing laser scan data from Faro Scene.

This build was purchased as a set of Tryscannosaurus Rex, Mascanodon, Triscanatops, Saber Tooth Scanner, Pterodascanyl, and Dragonscanzord.

This customer has also purchased Super Tower of PowerDEVR 1, and Accelerated Design.

Design Rationale

  • The Xeon w5-3435X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for lightly-threaded loads, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm liquid cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with room for 8 RAM slots, 1 dual-slot GPU, and twin dedicated RAID controllers. Onboard 10G networking was a plus.
  • The customer requested 128GB of RAM via 4x32GB DDR5-4800. This gives the user plenty of memory for NAS use, and some light scan processing if needed.
  • The customer wanted a triple-layer storage setup; 2x2TB NVME RAID0 for OS/programs, 4x4TB SSD RAID0 for cache, and 10x16TB HDD RAID6 for main storage. This gives the user an extremely potent array for OS, cache, and main storage.
  • The customer requested an RTX A2000 12GB video card.
  • The customer requested a 1600W power supply.
  • We used our bigger full-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
