General System Design

This build is designed around a 16-core i7-13700K processor and an RTX 4090 24GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer was looking for a new powerful computer for VR gaming.

This build was designed in particular for Digital Combat Simulator and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 via multiple high-resolutions screens and a PIMAX Crystal VR. Special attention was paid to the numerous USB ports for flight instruments, controls, cockpit, and panels.

This build was influenced by our 4K/240hz Gaming Computer.

Design Rationale

  • The i7-13700K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for VR gaming and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a dual-tower cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality and USB ports. We also picked a USB expansion card for extra ports.
  • The customer wanted at least 32GB of RAM and didn’t want last-gen tech.
  • The customer was fine with our default storage setup.
  • Based on the performance needs, we recommended the RTX 4090 24GB.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1200W power supply was recommended.
  • We used a bigger mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
