Build 112 – Fresh Creation Station: 3D Rendering Workstation

Fresh Creation Station is a 3D rendering workstation.

Fresh Creation Station is a 3D rendering workstation.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X processor and an RTX 3070 8GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new 3D rendering workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This 3D rendering workstation was designed primarily with Chief Architect X13 in mind, and was built to accommodate RTX graphics capabilities used for 3D rendering and raytracing.

This build was influenced by The Battle Chassis.

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 9 5900X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for modeling, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a dual-tower cooler was recommended. Liquid cooling is more powerful, but not necessary for the heat output of the Ryzen 9 5900X.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 32GB of RAM. 64GB is an easy upgrade.
  • The customer was fine with our default storage setup.
  • The customer wanted a good amount of 3D rendering power and raytracing capacity, but didn’t need great amounts of VRAM (an RTX 3090 was debated). The RTX 3070 fit the performance requirement well, and wasn’t too expensive.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 850W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our default mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our default fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.

Customer Review

With my architectural design software requiring better graphics and memory capabilities with each new release, it became clear that my laptop was not cutting it.

“I had noticed Chris Touchberry in a Facebook group for local business owners a couple of years ago. When I decided to consider a custom-built solution, Chris was the first person I thought of. From our first Messenger exchange to phone calls and emails, it was clear that Chris and his team were a good fit for my needs. Their passion for what they do is clear, as is their knowledge and expertise.

I sent Chris my system requirements, and researched many of the options myself. He listened to my ideas and answered my multitudes of questions. Chris put together different solutions that would enable me to upgrade in the future to meet the changing needs of my software.

I selected an option, and Top Flight Computers proceeded to order the parts and build my 3D rendering workstation. Chris came to my home office and to set it up himself. I feel confident about my decision to forego an off-the-shelf system and let an expert create a custom solution just for me!

The hallmark of good customer service is listening to your clients, treating them with respect, and taking the time to deliver a product that meets or exceeds their needs. I can say without a doubt, that Chris did all of these things! I highly recommend them to anyone who is in the market for a custom-built solution.”
