Description

LG Reality Bytes is a photogrammetry workstation, designed around a 28-core Xeon W7-3465X processor and an RTX A6000 48GB video card.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 28-core Xeon W7-3465X processor and an RTX A6000 48GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This build was designed specifically for Trimble Business Center, Pix4D Mapper, Pix4D Matic, Pix4D Survey, Pix4D Global Mapper, GeoSLAM Draw, GeoSLAM Connect, TopoDot, Bentley MicroStation, Autodesk Civil 3D, and Google Earth.

This build was influenced by our Xeon AEC Workstation and Xeon Extreme AEC Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The Xeon W7-3465X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for general use, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm liquid cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted to have at least 512GB of RAM, and wanted room to easily add more sticks.
  • The customer requested a 1TB Gen4 NVME for OS+programs, 8TB Gen4 NVME for main storage, and 8TB Gen4 NVME for long-term storage.
  • The customer preferred the RTX A6000 for general-purpose GPU compute, and a large amount of VRAM. The RTX A4500 is to be used if the A6000 crashes and an emergency GPU is needed while a replacement A6000 is sourced.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1200W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our default full-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
