General System Design

This build is designed around a 16-core i9-12900K processor and an RTX A4000 16GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a few powerful new workstations to handle their growing professional workload. These systems are designed in particular for Leica Register 360, Leica Cyclone 3DR, Leica Cloudworx, ArcGIS Indoors, and AutoCAD MEP.

Systems in this order include Neil and Nick.

Design Rationale

  • The i9-12900K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for modeling, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm AIO is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 64GB of RAM, and didn’t want last-gen tech. 128GB is an easy upgrade.
  • The customer had several changes to storage. A 1TB boot drive was requested, and 2 2TB NVME drives in RAID0. Because they were backing up on a regular basis to another server, RAID0 was acceptable.
  • The customer didn’t want to get the highest-performing GPU, but they also didn’t want a low end model. The RTX A4000 16GB fit the requirement very well.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1000W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our default mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our high-performing fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
