Design Rationale

  • The Threadripper 9960X gave the customer a high amount of single-core performance for lightly-threaded loads, and high multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed and fit with the rest of the hardware, air cooling with a server cooler is required.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with good support for dual 5090s.
  • The customer was fine with 256GB of memory.
  • The customer was fine with our recommendation on storage.
  • The customer requested dual RTX 5090s for high compute at much lower cost than RTX Pro. This required special GPU models, and a special case.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 2000W power supply was recommended.
  • We used a large full-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used special high-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.

Customer Review

“TopFlight built a unique, high-performance rendering/simulation workstation for autonomy research featuring a Ryzen Threadripper and dual NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPUs, which is a capability we did not find offered from any other vendors.

Communication throughout the process was excellent. Chris and the team were highly responsive, transparent, and helpful during both the build and post-delivery setup.

Unfortunately, the system sustained damage due to rough handling during shipment. TopFlight’s response was outstanding. They took full ownership of the situation and promptly replaced the damaged, high-cost components.

We are highly pleased with both the system and the level of customer support we received.”
