This build is designed around a 26-core Xeon W7 2595X processor and an RTX 4500 ADA 24GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful 3D laser scanning workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This workstation is designed for terrestrial LiDAR scan processing in Leica Register360, Leica 3DR, Leica Cyclone CORE, Autodesk ReCap, Pix4D, AutoCAD, and Microstation.

This build was influenced by our Xeon Light Laser Scanning Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The Xeon W7 2595X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for general use, and high multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality. This upgraded Xeon 2500 motherboard has 4 m2 slots, allowing for a more robust storage array for storage-intensive workloads.
  • We initially recommended 256GB RAM, upgrading to 512GB to enable the customer to handle higher-density laser scans.
  • The customer requested 4 separate drives for OS, cache, projects, and exports. Other than the OS drive (PCIe 5), all are PCIe 4 for fast transfers system-wide.
  • We recommended the RTX 4500 ADA 24GB to handle large projects needing lots of VRAM. A more powerful GPU is easily installed.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1300W power supply was needed.
  • We used our larger mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our high-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
