Pei Baby is a 4K gaming computer, designed around a 12-core i7-12700K processor and an RTX 3080 10GB video card.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 12-core i7-12700K processor and an RTX 3080 10GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

Our Dovahkiin customer was looking for a set of 2 new powerful 4K gaming computers that would last a long time and be easily upgraded over time. These builds were also designed for live streaming.

Systems in this set include Devon Rex and Pei Baby. This build was influenced by Toa.

System Spec

Processor (CPU): Intel i7-12700K

CPU Cooler: Corsair iCUE H100i ELITE CAPELLIX White

Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4

Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro SL 32GB DDR4-3200

Storage (SSD): Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB

Storage (SSD): Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB

Video Card (GPU): Gigabyte RTX 3080 10GB AORUS XTREME

Power Supply (PSU): Corsair RM (2021) 850W 80+ Gold

Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow White

Fans: 6x Corsair LL120

Design Rationale

  • The i7-12700K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for gaming, and multicore performance for stream encoding. The i9 is faster for gaming, but the added cost generally makes it not worth it.
  • While air cooling was sufficient for the i7, the customer preferred the sleek look of liquid cooling, combined with some AIOs having white hoses.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality. This particular motherboard had some white accents as well.
  • The customer wanted at least 32GB of RAM, white body with RGB.
  • The customer wanted the same storage setup as on the original Dovahkiin build.
  • Knowing how Dovahkiin performed for the customer, an RTX 3080 was recommended. 4K gaming was more important than gaming+streaming, and streaming could be handled by the i7.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 850W Gold power supply was recommended, we found a version with white cables.
  • We used a white version of our default mid-tower case to fit the Z690 motherboard
  • We used high-pressure white fans with RGB to ensure proper cooling for the overall build.
