AI Training Workstation

Description

Pierco is an AI training workstation, designed around a 24-core Threadripper Pro 5965WX processor and 4 RTX 3090 24GB video cards.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 24-core Threadripper Pro 5965WX processor and 4 RTX 3090 24GB video cards.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a AI training workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This build was designed for AI training. The customer sourced used GPUs on their own, due to budget constraints.

As their business expands, they will likely upgrade to a more modern system such as our Threadripper Pro 9000 AI Training Rack Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The Threadripper Pro 5965WX gave the customer a high amount of single-core performance for editing, and decent multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted to have at least 256GB of RAM, more RAM was an easy upgrade.
  • The customer was fine with our recommended storage setup.
  • The customer wanted a certain amount of AI training capability, on a restricted budget. They chose the RTX 3090 and sourced these on their own.
  • The overall design of the build meant that dual 1500W power supplies were recommended.
  • We used our high-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
  • We initially specced a rackmounted custom loop, and had to change to an open-air system due to physical constraints when attempting to integrate the custom loop.

Customer Review

“Awesome group, really knowledgeable. I needed to build a custom GPU server for a scientific experiment and the guys came through big time.

They came very well recommended from another computer builder.

Thanks Chris for the awesome job.”
