General System Design

This build is designed around a 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X processor and an RTX 5090 32GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to augment their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This build was designed for ArcGIS Pro 3.5.

This build was influenced by our Core Ultra 9 Photogrammetry Workstation, this customer previously purchased QT-WRXTRANS.

Design Rationale

  • We initially recommended a Core Ultra 9 285K, however the customer requested a Ryzen 9 9950X for better performance in Linux. We did advise the customer of RAM limitations in Ryzen 9000 and possibly doing Threadripper 9000.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm liquid cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer agreed with our recommendation for memory.
  • The customer mentioned that this machine would be used by several users at once, so we recommended drives that have higher endurance (at the cost of lower performance).
  • We presented several GPU options to the customer, they eventually landed on the RTX 5090 32GB for high VRAM and overall performance.
  • We recommended a 1500W power supply due to the overall design of the build.
  • We used our larger mid-tower case to fit the build.
