Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new VFX workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This build was designed for VFX and 3D rendering, primarily used in Cinema 4D, Redshift, Keyshot, Adobe Suite, and Unreal Engine.

This customer previously purchased Pixel Forge. This build was influenced by our Threadripper 7000 Visual Effects Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The Threa​d​ripp​er ​79​70X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for lightly-threaded workloads and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks. While a 7960X was also reviewed, the 7970X was a more significant upgrade from the previous i9-13900K.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm liquid cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality, and an upgrade path.
  • The customer was fine with our default memory, 384GB was an easy upgrade.
  • The customer was fine with our default storage setup.
  • The customer preferred the RTX 4090 for maximum general-purpose GPU compute, and a large amount of VRAM.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1200W power supply was recommended.
  • We used one of our full-tower cases to fit the build.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
