Description

Short Circuit is a live streaming workstation, designed around a 6-core Ryzen 5 3600X processor and a GTX 1660Ti 6GB video card.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 6-core Ryzen 5 3600X processor and a GTX 1660Ti 6GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new live streaming workstation to handle their growing professional workload.

This customer in particular requested lots of USB 3.0 and USB-C on both the front and back, SD card functionality on the front, no RGB, quiet, and the ability to upgrade to stream in 4K in the future.

This system is designed in particular for OBS, MS Office, Zoom, Chrome, and Skype (in order of importance to the client).

This build was influenced by Roushcharged.

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 5 3600X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for general use, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a single-tower cooler is recommended. The customer opted for a dual-tower cooling for better long-term cooling power.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 32GB of RAM, 64GB was an easy upgrade.
  • The customer requested a 1TB NVME OS drive and 4TB HDD bulk storage drive.
  • We recommended the GTX 1660Ti for streaming performance.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 650W power supply was recommended, but we preferred an 850W for long-term GPU upgrade path.
  • We used a special full-tower case to fit the front IO desired in the build.
  • We used our default fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
