Description

Slicer is a 3D scanning workstation, designed around a 24-core i9-13900K processor and an RTX 4070Ti 12GB video card.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 24-core i9-13900K processor and an RTX 4070Ti 12GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This build was designed for Materialize, Autodesk NETFABB, and Fusion 360 in simulation, lattice generation, and 3D scanning.

This build was influenced by our i9 AEC Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The i9-13900K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for lightly-threaded tasks, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm liquid cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • After a conversation about memory available, the customer opted for 2x48GB of DDR5. Adding 2 more sticks for 192GB overall was an easy upgrade in the future.
  • The customer requested a 512GB Gen4 NVME for OS+programs, a 1TB Gen4 NVME for main storage, and a 4TB SSD for backup.
  • We recommended an RTX 4070Ti for general performance, decent VRAM, and low cost.
  • While the overall design of the build meant that an 850W power supply was needed, we recommended a 1200W to allow for an easy upgrade to a more powerful GPU in the future.
  • We used our bigger mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
