General System Design

This build is designed around a 16-core i7-13700K processor and an RTX 3060 12GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time. This build was designed for live streaming League of Legends to Twitch 24/7.

This build was influenced by our i9 Broadcasting Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The i7-13700K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for editing, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a tower cooler is recommended. While liquid cooling would reduce temperatures and noise, the reliability of the air cooler was more important. Also, due to the nature of the workload, most of the heavy encoding will be handled by the GPU.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 32GB of RAM, and didn’t want last-gen tech.
  • The customer was fine with our default storage setup.
  • We recommended an RTX 3060 12GB for streaming performance. The case and power supply selection allows for an upgrade to a bigger model in the future.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 850W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our normal mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our default fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
