Thanos is a CAD workstation.

General System Design

This build is designed around an i9-12900KS processor and an RTX 3090 24GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This customer noted interest in high impact visual design, and needed the build designed for Trimble Business Center and AutoCAD.

Design Rationale

  • The i9-12900KS gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for modeling, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm AIO is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted to max the build out with 128GB of RAM, and didn’t want last-gen tech.
  • The customer had several changes to storage. A 1TB boot drive was requested, 2x2TB NVME drives in RAID0, and 3x4TB HDD in RAID5 for long-term storage.
  • The customer requested the RTX 3090 for maximum GPU processing performance.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1300W power supply was recommended.
  • After showing the customer previous builds like Spectre v3, we used a bigger case.
  • While we recommended using our highest-performing fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure, the customer requested RGB models for visual appeal.
