Description

The Battle Chassis is a game development workstation, designed around a 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X processor and an RTX 3090 24GB video card.

General System Design

This build is designed around a 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X processor and an RTX 3090 24GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a new powerful game development workstation to handle their growing professional workload in Unity and Unreal Engine.

A good long-term upgrade path was important, as was the ability to work smoothly with 4K content and connect lots of devices via USB.

This build influenced Fresh Creation Station.

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 9 5900X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for editing, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a dual-tower cooler is recommended. Liquid cooling is more powerful, but not needed.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 32GB of RAM. 64GB is an easy upgrade.
  • The customer was mostly fine with our default storage setup, only upgrading the main drive to 2TB.
  • We originally recommended an RTX 3080 for this build, but that was heavily delayed. The customer ended up upgrading to an RTX 3090.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 850W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our default mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our default fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.

Customer Review

“Chris, Brian… The whole gang over at Top Flight Computers absolutely crushed it! These guys were able to source a Ryzen 9 series CPU and a Nvidia 3090 during the height of the GPU famine. More importantly, they were absolute pros during the entire affair.

Wouldn’t hesitate to use them again in the future. A computer is an investment and only rich people can afford to buy cheap investments. Buy it once, do it right, and forget about it for a couple years.”
