General System Design

This build is designed around a 16-core i9-12900K processor and an RTX 3090 24GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload in 3D animation, scan processing, and machine learning.

This system is designed for use in Blender, Revopoint, Meshroom, COLMAP, FFT, LT-Spice, and Micro-Cap 12.

The customer stopped by our shop before purchasing the computer because they wanted to talk about it in person. After physically reviewing our Demo PC (it was at the office at the time), they wrote a check.

Design Rationale

  • The i9-12900K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for modeling, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm AIO is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted to max the build out with 128GB of RAM, and didn’t want last-gen tech.
  • The customer was fine with our recommendation for storage.
  • The customer wanted the RTX 3090 for maximum performance in their workloads.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1000W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our default mid-tower case to fit the motherboard
  • We used our highest-performing fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.

Customer Review

“Top Flight Computers built a very powerful computer that is ideal for my high computational workflows. I am using my “supercomputer’” for photogrammetry, Blender, CAD, and machine learning for small AI projects. The computer includes an RTX 3090 and it works fantastically.

I use Fedora Linux and I presently have no compatibility problems. Thanks to Chris and his team, I have the “supercomputer” of my dreams. Chris even worked secretly with my girlfriend to pick out a perfect monitor for my birthday. Thanks very much to Taraneh and Chris!!!

I couldn’t be happier with my experience from Top Flight Computers. I will definitely seek out Top Flight’s service for future upgrades.”
