This build is designed around a 4-core Ryzen 3 1300X processor and a GTX 1060 6GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer was looking for a new powerful 1080p gaming computer that would last a long time and be easily upgraded over time. This build was designed in particular for League of Legends.

This build was influenced by Tomahawk Strike.

Processor (CPU): AMD Ryzen 3 1300X

Motherboard: MSI B350 Tomahawk

Memory: GSkill Ripjaws V Series 1x8GB DDR4-2800

Storage (HDD): Western Digital Blue 1TB

Video Card (GPU): Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB

Power Supply (PSU): 500W 80+

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 3 1300X gave the customer a good amount of single-core performance for gaming, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a single-tower cooler is recommended. We used the stock cooler to save money.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 8GB of RAM, 16GB was an easy upgrade.
  • The customer opted for a single HDD for storage.
  • The customer was fine with our recommended video card.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 500W power supply was recommended.
  • We used a mid-tower case to fit the build.
