General System Design

This build is designed around a 32-core Threadripper Pro 7975WX processor and an RTX 5080 16GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer was looking for a new PC vendor for their game development business.

They wanted a vendor that understood their workload, knew how to design machines to be both powerful and long-lasting, and would be open to design changes to best fit their particular needs.

This build is designed specifically for programmers. It enables them to smoothly program and engineer the game, leaving the animation and overall production to animators and producers.

This build was ordered with Spector 1 and Lasseter 1 and is similar to our Threadripper Game Development Workstation.

Design Rationale

  • The Threadripper Pro 7975WX gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for general use, and significant multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm liquid cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality. They requested 10G networking, and verified that the motherboard was compatible with their PXE needs.
  • The customer agreed with our recommendation for memory.
  • The customer was mostly fine with our recommended storage setup, upgrading the second drive from 4TB to 8TB.
  • The customer was fine with our recommended video card.
  • The customer was fine with our recommended power supply.
  • We used a larger mid-tower case to fit the build. The customer requested a model without a glass panel.
