This build is designed around a 12-core i7-12700K processor and an RTX 3060 12GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer was looking for a new powerful workstation that would last a long time and be easily upgraded over time. This machine was designed for business operations, gaming, streaming, animation, and video editing.

This build was influenced by Unit 09.

Design Rationale

  • The i7-12700K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for gaming and editing, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a dual-tower cooler is recommended. Liquid cooling is more powerful, but not needed.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 32GB of RAM, and wanted to save some money with last-gen tech.
  • The customer was fine with our recommended storage setup.
  • We recommended an RTX 3060 for ideal gaming and editing performance.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 850W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our default mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our default fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
