This build is designed around a 24-core Threadripper 3960X processor and an RTX A6000 48GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful VFX workstation to better handle working from home.

This system is designed in particular for Unreal Engine, Maya, 3DS Max, Houdini, and Substance.

This build influenced The Berserker.

Design Rationale

  • The Threadripper 3960X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for modeling, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a single-tower cooler is recommended. Liquid cooling is more powerful, but not quite as reliable.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 64GB of RAM, 128GB was an easy upgrade.
  • The customer upgraded the main storage drive to 2TB.
  • The customer requested the RTX A6000 48GB.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 1000W power supply was recommended.
  • We used a bigger mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our high-end RGB fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
