General System Design

This system uses a 6-core Ryzen 5 2600X processor with a GTX 1060 6GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new 3D rendering workstation to handle their growing professional workload. This system is designed with a decent level of GPU rendering in mind, and will be used primarily as a render box.

This build was influenced by Pegasus.

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3000

Storage (SSD): Crucial MX500 500GB

Video Card (GPU): MSI GTX 1060 6GB

Power Supply (PSU): Corsair CXM 550

Case: NZXT H500 White

Design Rationale

  • The Ryzen 5 2600X gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for editing, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, air cooling with a single-tower is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 16GB of RAM.
  • The customer requested a single 500GB SSD.
  • We recommended the GTX 1060 for rendering performance.
  • The overall design of the build meant that a 550W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our default white mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our default fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
