General System Design

This build is designed around a 16-core i7-13700K processor and an RTX 4090 24GB video card.

Software Workload/Customer Need

This customer needed a powerful new workstation to handle their growing professional workload that would last a long time.

This build is designed for generative AI inference on LLMs, and is the customers first on-prem server.

This build was influenced by our Core Ultra 7 AI Inference 24B Workstation.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX

Memory: Kingston F​ury Renegade 2x32GB ​DDR5-6000

Video Card (GPU): PNY GeForce RTX 4090 24GB VERTO OC

Power Supply (PSU): be quiet! Straight Power 12 1200W

Design Rationale

  • The i7-13700K gave the customer a great amount of single-core performance for general use, and multicore performance for heavily-threaded tasks.
  • To ensure the CPU runs at full speed, liquid cooling with a 360mm cooler is recommended.
  • The customer wanted a stable motherboard with a good amount of desktop functionality.
  • The customer wanted at least 64GB of RAM, 128GB was an easy upgrade.
  • The customer was fine with our default storage setup.
  • The RTX 4090 worked best for the customers immediate needs, and swapping out GPUs for an RTX A6000/6000 ADA in the future to allow for larger models was easy to do.
  • The overall design of the build meant that an 1200W power supply was recommended.
  • We used our normal large mid-tower case to fit the build.
  • We used our highest-end fans to ensure proper airflow and static pressure.
