Xeon Max Laser Scanning Rack Workstation Overview

This Xeon Max Laser Scanning Rack Workstation is built around 2x Xeon Max 9462 with an RTX 4000 ADA 20GB video card. This combination provides a very powerful overall solution for extremely dense LIDAR processing and point cloud registration.

This laser scanning rack workstation is designed for use in applications such as Trimble Business Center, DJI Terra, Faro Connect, Faro Scene, Leica Cyclone, Leica Real Works, LP360, Artec Studio, and Polyworks Inspector. If you need more than 48GB of VRAM, you can add a second RTX 6000 ADA and NVLink over PCIe. We do not recommend switching to a consumer-grade video card due to the overall design of this system.

Due to the design of the CPU, quality of the memory controller, and the ability to gain a significant performance boost from overclocking with closed-loop liquid cooling, we recommend the Intel Xeon platform for LIDAR processing when you need more than 192GB of RAM for your laser scanning workstation build. While modern Xeon W can be heavily overclocked, often being able to set the single-core turbo to all-core turbo (regardless of core count), Xeon Max lacks this support. This is not a major concern, as workloads using Xeon Max are more concerned with memory capacity and bandwidth.

This build can be adapted from the current 4U rack to a 5U rack to accomodate a larger Geforce GPU (currently uses a smaller Pro GPU that costs more). This 5U rack costs about $350 more, including rails.

1TB of RAM is the highest we can go on Xeon Max, without resorting to EXTREMELY expensive 128GB or 256GB DIMMs.

This laser scanning rack workstation is currently limited to 224 threads, 5 PCI-E devices, and 4TB of memory. Please let us know if you need a more robust platform.
